Charleston, West Virginia The Lighthouse Program for Seniors Help With Personal Care, Moblity, Nutrition and Housekeeping

Lighthouse

Lighthouse is designed to assist those seniors who have functional needs in their homes, but whose income or assets disqualify them for Medicaid services. The Lighthouse Program, available in each county, is funded entirely by state monies and provides support in four areas: personal care, mobility, nutrition, and housekeeping.

An individual may receive up to sixty hours of service per month, based on a client assessment and resources available. To participate in the program one must be at least sixty years of age and meet the functional eligibility need. Lighthouse has a sliding scale fee reimbursement in place. See Lighthouse Policy and Procedures Manual for more detailed information.

A Lighthouse brochure is available for printing, and a 30-second Lighthouse video can be viewed below.

For further information, please call your county aging provider or contact us at the Bureau of Senior Services.

Our Tuesday April 20-2010

Today, I reached my friend on the phone who lives in Ohio. We are both getting older and she wasn't feeling good. I miss my Gano Cafe and I told her just have coffee with some blackstrap molasses as I was missing potassium in my diet. She told me that doing that gave her more energy. She has gone through her bout with cancer and the side affects of radiation did a little harm to her.

I had my day planned out. And it didn't go as planned. Last night I didn't go to sleep till 2:30pm Monday night letting the cat sleep with me a mistake as about 4AM he wanted treats so I had to put him out and shut the bedroom door. I didn't get what I needed accomplish did a few things running my anti virus and seeing if this computer works better. I think I am do for a new one..And how to afford that and other things is getting to be much. Like most of us it is hard.

It rained here hard about 4pm and I layed down at 3pm took a nap. I had a church members someone put me in touch with and they knew my ex neighbors who were of the same faith. So that was a great surprise and to learn of my friend's husband what has been going on with his health. I don't know what kind of help I will get but will see. I think they can help me declutter. I know of others who want the same thing a JOB.

I got down on my hand and knees wiping the floor up in the living room trying to dust things that are missed by the housecleaner provided by Santa Anita Senior services every other week. And anyone needing such a service contact you local chamber of commerce and ask about it. Or call local senior centers for information. I gave a link for senior services I have to a friend for help as she is having a hard time keeping up with cleaning, maintaining her health plus trying to work at many things from home and hope it helps her...

I guess call this a wrap for the day and hopefully Wednesday I can find a better day..

Hugs to all
